World Sailing visit Rio and leaves 'satisfied' with preparations for sailing competitions

The World Sailing (WS), federation that runs the main international competitions of sailing, announced on its website that is satisfied with the progress in preparation for the races of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Rio 2016. The executive director of the entity, Andy Hunt, the technical delegates Alastair Fox and Scott Perry, President of Pablo Masseroni events committee and Nebojsa Nikolic, representative of the medical committee were in Rio de Janeiro between 7 and March 10, and came out confident, with a positive impression of what they saw.

"The pipe that will prevent the sewage straight out at Marina da Glória is entering its final stage of completion and, if all goes well, the work will be delivered in early April," reported the WS, after visiting the site. Work on buildings in the Marina were also considered well underway. Nevertheless, the federation reaffirmed that "health safety of the competitors are priority."

In October 2015, the WS named Pedro Rodrigues to work together with the 2016 sustainability management, INEA and Olympic sustainability management team to ensure competition arenas without debris. Operational and contingency plans to remove objects in the water and in the area of ​​competition with use of ecobarcos were reviewed and readjusted. Also 18 ecobarreiras will be installed in the Guanabara Bay to the Games. Of the total, nine are already in operation and the remainder will be installed by May.

Seven areas of competition and three days of booking for each of the ten disputes medals provided for sailing give, in view of the WS, flexibility for the Olympic event is held properly. He said the plan is successful in providing options for different situations of water quality and wind conditions.

The new WS visit is scheduled for May.
