Besides being the first day of competitions of the World Modern Pentathlon Cup, 185 athletes from 30 countries participating in the tournament won an adequate pool to the demands of high performance sport for the test event mode, which takes place until the next Monday (14).
Built for the modern pentathlon at the Pan American Games Rio 2007, the pool won reforms to host the Olympic Games. In addition to winning new face, she had internal and external coatings renewed, enhanced sealing and filtration system and modernized locker rooms. Presented by the City Hall promptly at 11 am, it was inaugurated by the elite women's modern pentathlon at noon.

After the Youth Arena and the Deodoro Stadium, which hosted the rugby test event, the Aquatic Center is the third and last arena of the modern pentathlon to complete. In August, the facility receives temporary bleachers with two thousand seats, a structure that will be dismantled after the Olympics.

"I followed the Pan Rio 2007 and World Military Games in 2011, all very well organized. Hosting the Olympics is a complicated task, which has been very well served by the Rio 2016 Committee," said Klaus Schormann, president of the International Union Pentathlon modern (UIPM). "In the pentathlon, anything can happen in one day"
Michael Cunningham, technical coordinator of the Brazilian team, guarantees: the modern pentathlon, little known to the general public sport offers great excitement for fans. Athletes, he recalls, are the most versatile of the Olympic world, are able to render at the highest level in five different sports. The first competition is fencing, which works like this: all athletes face each other, accumulating points according to the number of victories.
In swimming, second round, the pentathletes earn points according to the time swimming in 200m freestyle. The score of swimming and fencing is added to the riding, third test and one of the most exciting. The horse in which each athlete will compete is defined by draw - and the athlete only has 20 minutes and five jumps to meet you. "The pentathlete must be adapted to ride different horses," says Michael.
The score added fencing, swimming and equestrianism is brought to the final proof: the combined event shooting and running. Each point represents an advantage of the second to the leader of the competition: if the leader has three points more than the second place, it will drop three seconds before. In it, the athletes run 3200m interspersed with shooting sections - ie, every 800m, there is a stop for the sport shooting. With a pistol laser, they need to hit a target five times. If they can not, they can continue the race after 50s. And finally wins who first crossed the finish line at the end of 3200m.
